Blogging is a great way to make money and you don’t need a million page views to start earning extra income from blogging.
I remember a few years ago people said that it’s too late to start a blog for profit. That advice is SO dumb and it comes from people who were trying to earn money through old-fashioned methods.
There has never been a better time to start a blog and there’s plenty of room for new bloggers to make money.
Blogging is not a “get-rich-quick” thing though. So if blogging for money is your main motivation, you have to be patient. If you’re passionate about your blog, you can certainly earn an income from it, but it won’t happen overnight (unless you’re a celebrity).
I know some bloggers who make thousands of dollars each month with their blog and some bloggers who aren’t making any money. It all depends on your goal and mindset.
My top 8 tips for blogging success
1. Pick a topic for your blogging that you are passionate about
This is one of the single most important aspects to become successful with your making money online business.
I started looking online for an income many years ago. I took several wrong turns though and never made any money with my business.
This set me back, and you can do it quicker by learning from my mistakes. The products you choose to promote has a great deal to do with your success.
You will be writing a lot of content about your topic (to build up trust within your niche), and it is just so much easier when you are passionate about the things you are writing about.
I have tried to pick a niche that everybody said was profitable, but it did not interest me. Working with that niche was like going to a job that I just hated. I quickly lost motivation and of course, failed with that niche.
Based on my failure and experience with that niche I instead picked another niche that I was passionate about and this niche is just so much more fun to work with – like a hobby.
I keep motivated to work with it and while I have been working with the niche I have not thought about money as the driver for the business, but my driver of that business is the kick I get when I can help other people, but as a bonus, I am now also earning money from that niche and it is growing every month.
And you must also remember when you are passionate about something you will often also be good at what you are passionate about. Further, people often can “feel” if you are passionate about the content you are writing about.
2. Set goals and have a clear purpose with your blog
When you’re first starting a blog (and even if you’ve been blogging for years) it’s essential to set goals. Ask yourself, “why you’re starting a blog?” – To share your story ? To make money ? To help others ?
Knowing why you want to start a blog can help you figure out your long-term goal(s). Then you’ll want to break this big goal down into short-term goals (monthly goals, weekly goals, and daily goals). This will help to keep you on track and stay focused on achieving your end result.
What if you don’t define your blog purpose clearly ?
– You will have no direction.
– Your audience will often remain confused and then, leave.
– You will get easily demotivated to write.
You don’t want that, right ?
When you establish a purpose, you will:
– Have more clarity and focus.
– Attract the right audience.
– Be more specific with your content, products, and marketing.
– Practice creativity because it’s vital to your purpose.
– Be more confident and consistent.
Therefore, instead of being everywhere and looking for answers to your problems, find your blog purpose.
– Make it crystal clear.
– Make it understandable.
– Make it transparent.
3. Your Mindset
If you don’t have the right mindset in place before you start up in the online business – it is my opinion, that there is no point talking about other important features relating to this business. If your foundation is not in place forget about the rest.
The make money online (MMO) industry is flooded with scam projects, that promise people to have attractive products and programs – often programs with a ‘MAGIC BUTTON’, where you are promised to earn lots of money in a short time with very little work.
A lot of us want easy money for little work. It is in our nature, that we dream of avoiding hard work and seek pleasure, and many of us are impatient and want to be rewarded as soon as possible.
And it is these human instincts that the scammers of the making online money projects are playing with to get you to sign up to their making money online scam projects.
A lot of newbies in the online business world will end up chasing all kind of these scam making money online opportunities and never getting anywhere, but losing a lot of money on these scam projects, and in the end, these people will leave the making money online business world, with broken dreams and less money.
The truth is there is no ‘magic button’ you can use in the online business world. To succeed in the online business world requires exactly the same dedicated effort to be successful as in any other industry – online or outside the online world – Simple as that.
So what can you do to have and keep the right mindset that helps you to stay with your online business ? There are many answers to that because we are all different people with different personality.
The best way I can answer it in a short way is to work with your business with the mindset to succeed saying to yourself ‘whatever it takes as long as it takes.’ Bill Gates had a plan that worked for him. He stuck to his plan no matter what. You don’t have to be the new Bill Gates, but you can do the same too, making a plan for your online business and makes it succeed, no matter what and how long it takes.
You will make failures like everybody else, but if you learn from your failures, and work with your online business to ‘whatever it takes as long as it takes’ – YOU WILL SUCCEED with your online business.
The good thing about the making money online business is, that it will not cost you a lot of money every month if you work with your online business THE RIGHT WAY – the most important investment for you is your TIME.
4. Quality Content
You’ve probably heard the term “content is king” before, right ? Well, it might be a bit cliché, but I’ve yet to see anyone adequately disprove it. Sure, you might have people claiming that content is no longer king, and say… quality is.
But how, may I ask, can one have quality content without, well… content ?
The only way people will ever look at your website is if there’s content on it. The only way people can discover you on social media, search engines, advertisements etc., is through content. The only way you can nurture leads, is through content.
On the other way, content is not enough, to make your audience love your blog/website and make a long-term relationship with your audience you need to create quality content.
Do you see what I’m getting at here ?
Quality content is the lifeline of your online business. Without quality content marketing, there is no lifeline to your blog/website, and it will only be a matter of time when your blog/website will die if you don’t have quality content on your blog/website.
The good news is the barrier of entry into who can create quality content is pretty low. As long as you can put pen to paper – or fingers to keyboard – you can create content. But the bad news is, content marketing isn’t easy. It takes perseverance, hard work, consistency and innovation (as well as a bunch of other things too!)
But I’m not here to tell you it’s going to be easy, I’m here to tell you it’s going to be worth it.
5. Patience, Perseverance and Persistence
It’s important to keep a consistent schedule for your blog/website. If you write a new post every day for a week, then don’t write a new post for a whole month, this will make it hard to build a loyal and engaged audience.
I recommend figuring out how often you’d like to publish new content on your blog/website. It can be three times per week or twice per month – just make sure to be consistent so your audience will know when they can expect new content from your blog/website.
To be successful with your blog you need the 3 P’s:
This is an online business you’re building which means it will take time, so be patient with your business as you won’t see yourself earning thousands of dollars in the first 6 months.
This is not a get rich quick scheme, Google doesn’t even rank you until you’re in your 3-4 months and depending on how often you publish new content, it can take even longer, but it will come for sure if you have patience.
Mind your own business – don’t get impatient if you see others earning faster than you, what you may not know is that, other people could be writing a post a day while you’re only writing 4 posts a month because that is what you have time for your online business at this stage.
Do what you can, it’s all about balance as you have other parts of your life to deal with as well. Come up with a schedule that you can manage and still build your online business on a steady, consistent schedule.
Don’t let roadblocks stop you, get through the issue and move on to the next one. If you can’t find the answer, keep looking. You will find a solution.
Things will go wrong, you will run into obstacles, it’s a matter of how you’ll get through them.
Keep a positive mindset and you’ll come out stronger each time.
DO NOT GIVE UP – I say it one more time because this is so important – DO NOT GIVE UP.
If you give up, then that’s it, you’ll never know how your online business would have done.
I’ve seen so many successful members of my training platform say to keep moving forward, keep writing, keep posting, and you’ll find results.
I find this to be very true, as my websites are one year old now, the traffic continues to increase as I keep adding new content, and thus so is my income.
You have a proven path with the right training, if you feel something isn’t working right, then go over the lessons again to see why or ask for help.
You will be able to find success if you follow the training and keep building your site.
If you can practice the three P’s, your online business will succeed in time and will make you the kind of money you’re hoping for from your online business.
6. Don’t spread yourself too thin on social media
Many new bloggers feel the need to be on every social media platform because that’s what they see other bloggers do. The truth is, every social media platform works differently. For example, growing your audience on Pinterest involves very different strategies than growing yourself on Twitter.
Social media marketing is an important part of marketing your blog/website, and it’s increasingly becoming a central part of many business owners marketing strategies. However, there are no rules to social media, only guides so be careful not to rely too heavily on these guides and instead test different things out on your social media platforms.
I do recommend creating profiles on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and Instagram, just to ensure you have the same handle across all platforms. However, I only recommend focusing on one or two social media platforms to promote your online business and doing them really well.
If I have to recommend one Social Media Platform, that you should focus on it is Pinterest and you can read why Here
7. Start building your email list from day one
If you are serious with your online business – then you start building your email list from day one.
Because people want to read and listen to you and an email is the best and fastest way to make a direct relationship with your readers.
Every other serious and successful entrepreneur, company or a blogger who runs a business online has an email list. They have email automation, sales funnels, targeted email marketing campaigns.
Because an email list is a safe place to form a relationship with your audience.
Your readers actually open your emails. You speak to them one-on-one. You make a relationship with them. You know about their problems and needs.
And, you can encourage them to take an action.
Most importantly, an email list is your own safe zone area that you proudly own.
You pay an email auto-responder that automates and set up emails for you.
No interference of any social network.
No risk of losing the traffic or followers numbers.
You gradually build and grow your own email list.
So, if you want that trusted connection with your readers then I highly recommend you to build an email list. I made this mistake and did not build an email list from the beginning. But, I don’t want you to repeat this.
8. Don’t give up and connect with other bloggers
I know it’s easy to get discouraged when you don’t see comments on your posts right away, or your traffic isn’t growing as fast as you’d like. When I first started blogging, it felt like only my family was reading my website.
But I put in a genuine effort especially with my mindset and worked hard with patience at growing my website. There is no such thing as overnight success. It takes time to see results, which is why it’s important to enjoy the journey and work with a niche, that you are passionate about.
I recommend connecting with other bloggers and building relationships with them. You can do this by joining Facebook groups or finding blogs similar to yours on Bloglovin’ – https://www.bloglovin.com/. This is a great way to learn, support each other’s blogs, and it may lead to a collaboration opportunity someday.
Another way to connect and get support is to join a training platform with an active community.
If you join a good training program with an active community then the great thing is that you have a whole community of like-minded people that are willing to help you out if you get stuck.
That is also a very good way to stay motivated when you know that you are not sitting alone with your business, and with an active community, you can ask and get a response to issues related to your business from like-minded people.
Many times they have been going through exactly the same challenges that you are facing.
To be a member of an active community is gold when you are working with your online business!
You can ask a question to the community and often someone will be able to help you out.
Well, there you have it! Those are my top 8 tips for blogging success, and then the next question could be – How long does it take to make money online ?
I can’t tell you when you will make money online, but I can tell you that you WILL make money… IF you do the work the right way AND give yourself the TIME.
If you make an agreement with yourself, that you are willing to do ‘whatever it takes as long as it takes’ – YOU WILL SUCCEED with your online business – simple as that – TRUST ME 🙂
